Dr. Burris Named Director for Curriculum and Instruction

Since becoming Superintendent in 2022, Dr. Locklair has led the district through significant academic growth, expanded learning opportunities, strengthened community partnerships, and launched the student-centered leadership model known as the “MCS Way.” Under his leadership, the district earned numerous statewide accolades, including Top 10 rankings in Grade Level Proficiency and CTE credentials, continued Purple Star District recognition, and the opening of Moore Innovative High School.

MCS Commemorates Constitution Day

Moore County Schools Superintendent Tim Locklair Named Regional Superintendent of the Year

Moore County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim Locklair has been named the 2025–2026 Sandhills Region Superintendent of the Year and is now a finalist for the A. Craig Phillips State Superintendent of the Year Award. This recognition highlights Dr. Locklair’s leadership and the collective efforts of the MCS team, whose work has helped the district rank among the Top 10 in North Carolina for both Grade Level Proficiency and Career & Technical Education. Under his guidance, Moore County Schools continues to expand opportunities for students, including the launch of Moore Innovative High School in Fall 2025.

Moore Innovative High Ribbon Cutting

Moore County Schools celebrated the official ribbon cutting for Moore Innovative High School (MIHS) on the Sandhills Community College campus, the district’s first cooperative innovative high school focused on skilled trades. The inaugural class of 65 students began in August and will benefit from small cohorts, hands-on learning, and direct access to SCC faculty and labs. Supported by a $25 million state investment, MIHS is designed to prepare students for high-wage, high-skill careers while strengthening Moore County’s workforce and community.
